Tracy has been to Bangkok and identified 20 slum areas. The slums are located near the rivers and klongs (canals). When you visit a slum, the first thing that hits you is the overwhelming smell. The slums are a living example of abject poverty - they are not fit for humans to live in yet thousands do. Disease is rife and children are in danger - vulnerable to traffickers and criminals. Often the children are left on their own in the slums to walk the streets whilst their parents go off to try and earn their measly living. One thing they have is pride.
In each area that has been identified, MCCF will provide a daycare centre for kids up to the age of 5.
Each centre will hold up to 50 children and be open all year around. It will be a safe environment in which the kids can play and learn.
In each centre, the kids will be given proper food to eat and milk to drink and, with a nurse visiting regularly, their health will be carefully monitored.
The centre will be manned by local volunteers, adults from the slums themselves, which will mean that it is not just the children who are benefiting from the centre. These adults should get a "sense of purpose" by working at the centre and seeing the kids get enjoyment and learning. The children will be protected there and parents will have a safety net, knowing that their kids are spending their days in a safe environment.
Although each of the communities affected has agreed to the new centre being opened, there is much work to be done to get the centres off the ground.
Raising funds is, of course, the biggest challenge. If you would like to donate please email Tracy: info@mccf.uk.com.
